I bought my first Schipperke Valkyra Sassy Sinbad in 1978 after extensive research.  Sinbad was very sensitive to my every need and mood and very independent.  He came to me at age 4 months and was house broken in one week.  The next week he had run of the kitchen while I was at work.  He took the wallpaper off the wall.  Of course I put it back up.  The next day he took it off again and torn it into very tiny pieces.  I decided that he was bored in the kitchen and gave him run of the house.  I was a first time dog owner and had lots to learn.  However, Sinbad was very special and never had an accident or chewed after having the run of the house.  I have since learned that is not typical for schipperkes.

I started to show about a year later.  I was very novice in showing and Sinbad did not particularly like showing.  He loved to go with me as long as he didn’t have to go into the show ring.  Sinbad’s favorite toy was any ball.  We would play for hours.  When I would get tired I would hide the ball.  Just part of the game because Sinbad always found it and let me know he had.

Sinbad helped me pick out my husband as I was not a good judge of character.  When I went out for a date if Sinbad didn't approve of the man he would leave me a little pile at the front door.  Sinbad was very careful to the place the pile not where the door would open on to it, only where I would step.  He did this behaivor on the first date if the person was not a kind person.  Eventually I saw a pattern of Sinbad's behavior and the character of whom I was dating.  When I dated a kind gentle person there were no surpises at the front door.  I know this sounds silly as I write it I just have to say that I find these little dogs so very intelligent.

Sinbad was the first dog and schipperke my husband ever had.  Sinbad trained us and we have been in love with the breed ever since.

My foundation bitch came to me in 1996, Valkyka By Me Paws and Reflect.  I had recently moved out into the country so I would be able to have more schipperkes.  I guess for me one was not enough.  I have been happily addicted to the breed since my first boy crossed my doorstep.

I do breed occasionally trying to be conscientious as to maintaining the breed standard, temperament and health of this wonderful breed. All of my kids are house dogs who also happen to show.
