IN MEMORY OF

TROOPER

ZEPHYRS HIGHWAY PATROL

Trooper was bred, whelped and sent to his new home just prior to the general knowledge of MPS3B.  He was one of six puppies and was the old soul of the litter.  After it was discovered that both his parents were carriers all of the puppies were tested.  Trooper was the only puppy of the litter affected with this devastation disease.  At the time this became known Trooper was settled into his new life and very much loved by everyone.

Troopers story is most eloquently written by his loving owner. Here is one excerpt.

Just another day at work for Trooper

I had a family visit the Adult Day Care Center yesterday in hopes of signing their 90ish year old father who was wheelchair confined...he had no legs, some dementia, and had been withdrawn from everyone for months...son thinks he had lost his will to go on....he was previously in another center and one day while in transport w/ the center's van service wasn't buckled in the center's van properly and was thrown out of his wheelchair. they brought him to me to meet and he wouldn't open his eyes or say hello to me....his wife and son had so much sadness in their eyes....they just wanted to find a place where Dad would be cared for during the day and be SAFE..but they were discouraged he was so far away and withdrawn.....

I asked the family if he liked dogs....they responded by saying 'oh yes!'...I called Trooper and in my office he came trotting ...I picked him up and sat directly in front of the man and tapped him on his thigh....he opened his eyes and a huge smile came across the man's face and he said very softly 'Hi little fellow!'......he opened his hands and asked for his paw....Trooper sat for a minute watching the man and placed his paw in the man's hand...then a relationship was formed instantly and everyone had tears in their eyes...I told the man if he came to see me everyday, he could hold Trooper all day....his eyes remained open and he continued to smile...his son asked if he would like to attend and the man answered yes....all of us were elated!

I quietly praised my dog for what he does so naturally....
